Avon ZZ5 Owner Reviews
Review this tireWhat owners say summarised from 91 reviews
Dry and wet grip are the clearest strengths of the Avon ZZ5, with sixty and forty-four favorable mentions respectively, against two and seven criticisms. Noise is generally liked too, with thirty-one positive accounts against eleven complaints, while handling, steering feel and comfort receive mostly favorable feedback. Tread life is almost evenly divided, with fifteen positive comments and fourteen criticisms. Mid-life and end-of-life accounts range from long service with retained grip to rapid wear, so longevity is not a settled advantage. The two owners who wrote later reviews do not establish a shared ageing pattern. Across ninety-one reviews, the 76.9% average reflects sixty-nine positive scores, fourteen neutral and eight below 40%.

Dry level grip levels are certainly more than I've so far been willing to test on public roads. Wet grip levels are as good as any tire I've tried and a huge improvement over the Goodyear Eagles. Noise levels are much improved as well. Comfort seems fine, so guess the sidewalls aren't massively stiff but not so soft that turn-in is affected.

Well. To begin with I was a little underwhelmed, and thought I'd made a mistake. The car was twitchy and nervous. However, after 300 miles, WOW. These tires really are fantastic. Great grip in both dry and wet conditions.
I've pushed the car to the limit on wet roads, and the tires really impressed me.
I use the car on the motorway, and these tires are pretty quiet.
Would definitely buy again.

Can't fault the tires for grip. My last tires were Michelin Pilot Sport 2s. The ZZ5s were nearly as good in the wet, with no real difference in the dry.
Michelin's lasted a bit longer, but at nearly twice the price, I would expect them to

Clearly on a pretty powerful FF model car a lot is being asked of the front tires therefore I didn't want to go for budget tires and I didn't see the point of going for a premium brand as they were going to get lunched anyway therefore I went for a more mid range to low premium tire and after several comparisons of brands I went for the Avon ZZ5s
The tires are ok in the dry and do give decent feedback when the road gets twisty but if there is the slightest bit of moisture on the road the tires just seem to give up and will slide even at very careful speeds.
I would suggest that these tires are more suitable for motorway cruising rather than spirited B-road blasts which is a shame considering Avon's British motorsport heritage.
