Best Review for the Toyo Open Country AT III
Given 86% 285/75 R17 on a combination of roads for 10,000 spirited miles
A definite step in the right direction from the older AT2 in basically every way. I've driven multiple ram rebels that came with them stock, and I can say that the AT3 on my outdoorsman makes it feel more confident and capable than those trucks ever felt. Living in Atlantic Canada and being mid-late January, I have gotten a pretty good chance to experience how these work in the winter. Snow traction is above average for the all terrain class, although ice traction is still pretty average for the class. It's worth noting as well that these tires are very quiet compared to some of their main... Continue reading this review using the link below

Conclusion

If your driving is mostly on-road with regular rain and occasional dirt, the Goodyear is the safer, more composed choice: shorter stops in the dry (−2.75%) and wet (−4.87%), quicker lap times, calmer noise (−2.3 dB), and higher subjective comfort. Its main weakness is aquaplaning resistance, where the Toyo holds an edge, and it's not snow-rated.

Choose the Toyo if you prioritize off-road and winter-like surfaces. It led gravel pace (−0.97%), scored higher in subjective gravel feel, resisted aquaplaning better, and delivered markedly stronger snow traction (−19%) and snow handling (−7.9%). It trades that for longer wet/dry stopping and more cabin noise. In short: Goodyear for everyday road confidence and refinement; Toyo for heavier-duty trails, standing water, and snow-focused use.
Key Differences
  • On-road wet: Goodyear brakes shorter (−4.87%) and laps quicker; Toyo trails.
  • On-road dry: Goodyear stops shorter (−2.75%) and handles slightly quicker.
  • Aquaplaning: Toyo leads in straight (+1.97%) and curved (+5.8%) resistance.
  • Snow: Toyo dominates traction (−19%) and handling (−7.9%); Goodyear not snow-rated.
  • Refinement: Goodyear is quieter (−2.3 dB) and more comfortable.
  • Off-road balance: Toyo better on gravel; Goodyear slightly quicker on dirt.

Footnote

This page has been developed using tire industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tires in the same test.

Why is this important? Tire testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tire test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tire tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tire Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tire comparison, Tire Reviews doesn't.
