Performance Analysis

Hankook iON Evo - Official Image

Across three summer-focused tests, the Hankook iON Evo consistently delivered class-leading dry and wet on-road performance with strong efficiency. It won two of three tests and averaged 1.3 overall, repeatedly topping braking and handling while maintaining low rolling resistance and competitive noise/comfort. Aquaplaning resistance and value/range trade-offs appeared as the primary compromises depending on test context and size.
Key strengths are short braking distances and high cornering/handling speeds in both dry and wet, plus best-in-test rolling resistance in two studies. Weaknesses cluster around aquaplaning performance and, in one EV-specific test, value/range metrics versus the very best.

Performance Strengths
  • Dry Performance Strong
    • 1st place dry braking in 2025 (33.6 m)
    • 1st place dry handling in 2025 (92.8 km/h)
    • Top-3 dry across 2024: 3rd dry braking (+3.5% from best) and 3rd dry handling (+0.4% from best)
    • 1st place dry braking in 2023 (33.7 m)
  • Wet Performance Strong
    • 1st place wet handling and wet circle in 2025; wet braking 2nd (+0.5% from best)
    • Top-3 wet suite in 2024: wet braking 2nd (+2.7%), wet handling 3rd (+2.2%), wet circle 3rd (+2.5%)
    • 1st place wet braking and wet handling in 2023
  • Efficiency / Rolling Resistance Strong
    • 2024: 1st rolling resistance (7.65 kg/t)
    • 2023: 1st rolling resistance (6.21 kg/t)
    • 2025: rolling resistance 3rd (+16.2% from best) but still upper tier
  • Noise and Comfort Moderate
    • 2024: 1st noise (68.6 dB) and 2nd comfort (+4.2% from best)
    • 2025: noise 3rd (+2.2% from best) and comfort 2nd (+12.5% from best)
  • Overall Competitiveness / Awards Strong
    • Overall 1/8 in 2025 AutoBild EV test
    • Overall 1/3 in 2023 Tire Reviews EV vs UHP test
    • Overall 2/6 in 2024 Asian UHP test; only EV-focused tire competing with UHPs
Performance Weaknesses
  • Aquaplaning Resistance Moderate
    • 2025 straight aquaplaning 2nd (+6.6% from best) and curved aquaplaning 2nd (+1.7%)
    • 2024 curved aquaplaning 4th (+8.8% from best)
    • 2023 straight aquaplaning 3/3 (+6.2% from best); article notes ~5% worse than best
  • Value and Range Trade-off Moderate
    • 2025 value 4/8 (+37.3% from best) and range 7/8 (+10.7% from best)
    • Despite low RR wins in 2023/2024, range/value not always leading in 2025 EV-specific size
  • Wear/Longevity Minor
    • 2025 wear 3/8 (+12.1% from best) not class-leading
