Performance Analysis

General Grabber GT Plus - Official Image

Across two AutoBild summer SUV tests, the General Grabber GT Plus consistently finishes in the lower third overall (9/12 in 2023 and 9/11 in 2022), driven mainly by weak on-road dynamic performance in both dry and wet cornering-related disciplines. While it shows some isolated strengths (notably off-road sand performance and occasionally good wet braking/aquaplaning), these are not enough to offset its repeated mid-to-backpack results on the core road safety/handling measures that dominate the rankings.

Its clearest positive pattern is off-road capability, especially in sand and (in 2022) gravel traction, plus some respectable aquaplaning resistance. The most repeatable negative pattern is handling/grip in dry and wet (particularly wet circle/limit grip and dry handling), alongside poor grass traction in both tests.

Performance Strengths
  • Off-road Traction (Sand/Loose Surfaces) Strong
    • 1st place sand traction in 2023 (8886 N, 1/12)
    • 2nd place gravel traction in 2022 (+2.8% from best, 2/11) and 4th place sand traction in 2022 (4/11)
  • Aquaplaning Resistance (Straight/Curved) Moderate
    • Curved aquaplaning 4/11 in 2022 (+3.7% from best) and straight aquaplaning 4/11 in 2022 (+3.6% from best)
    • Straight aquaplaning 7/12 in 2023 (+8.4% from best)
  • Efficiency / Rolling Resistance Moderate
    • Rolling resistance 4/12 in 2023 (+4.9% from best)
    • Rolling resistance 6/11 in 2022 (mid-pack)
Performance Weaknesses
  • Dry Road Performance (Braking & Handling) Strong
    • Dry handling ranked 10/12 in 2023 (+4.7% from best) and 10/11 in 2022 (+1.4% from best)
    • Dry braking ranked 10/12 in 2023 (+7.5% from best) and only 8/11 in 2022
  • Wet Cornering Grip / Handling (Wet Handling & Wet Circle) Strong
    • Wet circle ranked 10/12 in 2023 (+3.4% from best) and 10/11 in 2022 (+4.2% from best)
    • Wet handling ranked 10/12 in 2023 (+2.9% from best) and 9/11 in 2022 (+2.9% from best)
  • Grass Traction Moderate
    • Grass traction 9/12 in 2023 (+17.4% from best), noted as 'poor on grass' in the test commentary
    • Grass traction 8/11 in 2022 (+8.2% from best)
