Mazda MX5 2.0 SE (ND 2015 onwards) Tire Review Highlights

Writing about the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 given 52% (205-45-17-)
Driving on mostly country roads for 3000 spirited miles
Extrem grip, low mileage (Act. 4tkm, mainly Swiss mountain roads, 2.8mm remaining on weakest spots vs. best 4mm
Vague Center Point which is more of a CenterZone (Null-/Mittellage: 11:57…12:03); feels lose & broken, most notably at low speed (40-70km/h), tried total toe in of 0/10/14‘ (arcminute); no change.
Very soft carcass (88V), flips over/to sidewall, even with 2.5bar (36psi) hot, imagine OEM 2.0 cold, 2.2 hot!
Silent&comfortable, light&agil, convidence inspiring & safe, could call boring….

Great & stiky tire for joyride with „EnlargedCenterZone“.
Poor disappointing mileage, below 5tkm, (I get 6tkm out of AD08RS in average of 10sets! Well, Bridgestone Potenza Sport did below 3tkm)

Will go back to AD08RS hope steering will get back!

Driving on track for 112 miles
I’ve struggled with this tire, I simply don’t trust them, on one hand the tire turns in so fast and inspires confidence but almost instantly seems to be unable to hold its own turn in line and drifts and moves, I completed a fast session recently and was really disappointed with the way the tire moves around even in straight lines, and was surprised to find they were barely warm at the end of the session? I played around with tire pressure and did feel some improvement dropping the pressure to 20psi from 26psi but not enough to warrant using them again. In the dry fitted to a 950kg race prepped 220bhp MX5 NA I didn’t think this tire was good enough, I’ve never once been nervous in a race or track session but genuinely was, the car moved around, was nervous and under braking was fun but nose was everywhere, I honestly thought there was an issue with the car, so for the safety of myself and others abandoned the session to ensure car was OK, switched back to my Michelin set up and set my fastest lap of the day two laps in and then continually lapped 8 seconds a lap faster with Michelins than I did with the Toyo’s. Track. Conditions were dry 23c ambient but cloudy and track was dry for at least a week. Excelled at ion was strong with this tire, initial turn in very very good, but won’t hold the line, moves about mid corner, and under heavy braking whilst strong, the car moved around a lot making it difficult for me to balance the car before turn in. Ive used Toyo road tires with great results but feel the compound of these tires do not suit UK tracks and definitely required tire warmers.

Had these tires as OEM fitment on my Mazda MX-5 2.0 ND. Great in the dry but when it's wet (and colder) it oversteers very easily even when you're light on the throttle. Had them replaced by a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and those are way better in the wet. Wouldn't by the S001 again.

Mushy feeling and soft compound. Works on snow well, ice poses a challenge without studs, but I also have a red car with an open differential. Dry handling and feedback is terrible to be honest, dws06 have been used prior and offer amazing results, but snow performance isn’t as great, obviously

Changed from OE Bridgestone Potenza S001 to Goodyear Asymmetric 6 (205/45R17). Transformed my Mazda MX5ND handling and steeringfeel for the better. It feels very predictable and progresive on the limit. (When the Bridgestone's lost its rearwheel grip it was often sudden and not progresive enough). The Goodyears is also less noisy and more comfortable. I am very happy with these tires and think it is oustanding value for ones money. Other tires I looked at was Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and Continental Premium Contact 6.

Driving on a combination of roads for 7000 spirited miles
Previously had Goodyear F1 Assy3 and Michelin PS4 on the car, but thought I'd try saving some money this time with Falken's FK510 - that was a mistake. In March/April when newly fitted I was stunned at the amount of grip (although this could partly be because I went wider from 205 to 215), and they continued to please me for 6 months. If I'd reviewed them at that point they would've been very highly rated, the only mark against them being the sidewall is a bit soft. However after this, they have really disapointed. Perhaps it's wear (although neither front or rear are at the wear bars yet), maybe it's the cooler temperatures and occasional salt on the roads, but the grip has very rapidly reduced and they make me nervous in greasy conditions. I can get rear wheelspin in third gear sometimes in a car with only 160 hp. They have just now started understeering at the front. I'm not sure if they put a better compound on the very outside of the tire or they just don't like 10'c temperatures but I've never seen tires drop off like these have, and at such low mileage too. There's plenty of tread left but I am considering swapping them for something more premium already, so they are a false economy.

these are trackday tires and i use them only on track or transfers from home to track. the grip is great, even better than Toyo R888R i have used before, consistent performance lap after lap. cornering speed is great! on wet surface it is better to stay at home or cruise at low speed. street usability is fine as long as you use them for short distances, you can feel every pothole, even the smallest my car is a 2016 Mazda MX-5 with no mods other than Tein dampers

I've now driven these in cold-wet conditions (best suited to); in heavy snow and ice on Scottish mountains where they "got me home"; and dry hot summer days back in London where you can feel the reduction in grip vs summer tire (but nothing too bad); plus torrential rain to gauge aqua-planing. Really not a bad tire. As in my earlier reviews, they've handled all conditions as advertised, and I would buy again. Key things -- on snow/ice, if you drive carefully, they'll get you home in any conditions. In cold-wet they transform grip, and also great in torrential rain as advertised. In hot-dry conditions, you need to drive & think ahead to avoid any compromises as they are softer than summer-tires and will slide more as they heat-up. Wear was not bad, even on the back of my MX-5. On a heavier car, driven primarily in South of UK, I can imagine 12k miles of life, as this is a stickier softer tire, but that's what you are buying !!! Thoroughly recommend this. A great option if you only see a few days of snow each year.

Having had these tires on my previous car (Mini Cooper) I decided to have a set of four put on my MX 5 ND. They replaced 3 worn out Bridgestone Potenzas with 24,000 miles on them from new and a slippery Pirelli P7 that was half worn. My initial impressions are the care is more comfortable and smooth with less road noise. The 'W' rated Falkens have a stiff sidewall and handling feels positive. I am looking forward to a long wear life from these tires (the Mini Cooper has 20,000 miles and plenty of tread depth). I can highly recommend these tires.

Bought a 2015 MX5 with these tires on as OEM. The car has done 24000 miles from new and the tires are worn out. The ride is bumpy and the tires feel really hard to the point where they don't grip well. Driving hard in the dry they are acceptable. Driving hard in the wet is not possible due to low levels of grip. In the wet it's like driving with banana skins on your wheels and steering becomes inprecise. These tires are probably great if you live in a hot, dry country as they do start to grip well when warmed up. Unfortunately I live in Scotland!
